DESIGNER: Katrín Ásta

Katrín Ásta Gunnarsdóttir, my sister, designed this poncho. Kata, as she is always called, is my little sister. We are very different but we have a lot in common. We both got our zest for knitting when we sat together in our grandmother Katrín‘s kitchen – my sister Kata is named after her. Kata has been the greatest support for my einrúm-journey. Kata convinced me that she only knitted by following other designers’ patterns and didn‘t make any designs herself. But now I know better. Kata designed this beautiful poncho with loops increasing evenly down the middle in the front and on the back. The poncho can be worn two ways: either with the open pattern on the front or on the side and down the arms, making it two different garments.

METHOD

The poncho is worked in the round from the top down with a yarn-over pattern down the centre front and back, with increases on either side. There are two options for casting-on and casting-off. A tubular cast-on and cast-off, which gives the edges a soft appearance, was used for the poncho in the picture.
