CONSTRUCTION

Work the shorts in two pieces from the top down in a pattern of knit and purl stitches. First, work the right piece back and forth with short row shaping at the waist, increasing to shape the hip and the crotch.

Then join the piece for working the leg in the round to the side slit. The piece is separated at the outer leg to work the slit back and forth and then finished with an i-cord cast-off. The left piece is worked to mirror the right piece.

Sew the two pieces together along the crotch. Finally, pick stitches up along the upper edge for the waistband, work it in the round, and fold over an elastic band sewn to the wrong side and provided with a wide elastic band.
