VALA SLEEP MASK

This sleep mask and the accompanying pouches are a fun and fast little project worked in our PURE silk yarn. A pretty item that will make an elegant gift.

CONSTRUCTION

The sleep mask is worked sideways in the round according to the chart. Increases and decreases at the sides create the shape of the mask. The front can be worked with or without the knit and purl stitch pattern as desired. A narrow i-cord is worked along the edge of the mask to outline the shape. The casing for the elastic band is worked separately. It has added length to achieve the pretty ruche effect once the elastic band is drawn through. The mask is padded with batting, and the elastic is drawn through the casing and fastened at the sides of the mask.

The pouches are worked from the top down. First, the casings for the drawstrings are worked back and forth. The two pieces are then joined, and the rest of the pouch is worked in the round. The bottom of the pouch is closed with a three-needle cast-off from the wrong side. Two crochet chains are worked and drawn through the casings from each side of the pouch, so the pouch can be drawn closed.
